Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

A chocolate chip cookie recipe can be a family heirloom--especially if it has a "secret ingredient." What makes your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe unique?

Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Have you been to a Mrs. Fields cookie store lately? That woman makes every kind of chocolate chip cookie you can imagine. They're all different, but they're all similar too. And that's pretty much the case with most chocolate chip cookie recipes. They all taste the same, but most people have a special chocolate chip cookie recipe all their own.

Little Things Mean a Lot

To make a chocolate chip cookie recipe unique, most people take a basic chocolate chip cookie recipe (like the Nestle Toll House Cookie recipe, for example) and "doctor it up" a bit (as if that one needs any help). Some people make subtle changes like using one egg instead of two, using melted butter instead of room temperature butter, using a tablespoon of vanilla instead of a teaspoon, using milk chocolate chips instead of semisweet, etc. Some people add walnuts, some add pecans, some add M&Ms to the top! Whatever it takes to make their favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe different, yet uniquely their own.

Nieman Marcus

Here's an urban legend about a chocolate chip cookie recipe. As the story goes, a woman and her daughter were shopping at Nieman Marcus when they decided to have lunch there. For dessert, they ordered one of the chocolate chip cookies. The woman thought the cookie was so good that she asked the waiter if she could have the recipe. The waiter said, "Yes, you can purchase it for two fifty." The woman had the waiter add it to the check, and when the bill came she paid with her credit card without giving the total a second glance. When she got her bill in the mail, she was shocked at the total for lunch that day. Thinking it was just a mistake, she called the store. But apparently, the woman was the one who was mistaken. The recipe cost $250.00, not $2.50. They wouldn't reverse the charges, even after the woman's protests. To get even, she posted this famous chocolate recipe on the Internet and gave it to everyone she knew. Of course, Nieman Marcus has a story on their web site explaining that this is just an urban myth, but it makes for interesting reading, doesn't it? It also makes you wonder what it is that makes that chocolate chip cookie recipe so special!

No matter what chocolate dessert recipe is your favorite, there's no denying that warm chocolate chip cookies and cold milk at a great combination. Why not make some tonight?
