The bittersweet and milk chocolate are made from fine, high quality cocoa beans that are processed to a velvety smoothness. No graininess to be found in these Belgian chocolates.
In the formation of the fillings, Godiva uses large quantities of Grade A dairy butter and heavy cream--both of which are ingredients rarely used in quantity by American candy manufacturers.
Many of their Belgian chocolates contain hazelnut praline, a favorite of the Europeans. The filling is made from finely ground hazelnuts, sugar, and Belgian chocolate.
Their cherry cordials are made with cherries that are subtley flavored cherries and have a firm and tender texture. They are not artificially colored and have been hand sorted to make sure that no cherry pits remain.
Godiva uses specially dried fruits as ingredients in their fruit filled confections. The drying process that is employed captures freshness that is lost using other methods like freezing.

Because of these and many other factors, the quality of these Belgian chocolates is unmatched. They are also processes that take more time and more cost, that is why the final product generally cost more than what you find at the supermarket checkout. But they are well worth it, as you will also need less of these chocolates to satisfy your chocolate craving.
